- Children running wild through a desert town, their fathers dead in one of the many wars and battles...
- Death ceremonies for mothers who died giving birth in empty clinics without medicine...
Our role in this challenging situation:
After seeing such devastation, we have wondered to ourselves what we
would need to face the same challenges our brave friends have faced.
What if we had to face such challenges without the Word of God to bring
us courage and hope?
There are
many courageous agencies offering food, water, shelter, medicine,
education and other assistance to the people caught in the middle of
this crisis. We are thankful for their tireless efforts despite amazing
challenges.
God has placed a call in our hearts to bring encouragement and blessing
to a desert people of Chad and Sudan. What we have
to offer them is on a much deeper level, one which reaches into the
very heart of the problem.
What
we have been doing:
Over our
past term in Chad, we were able to complete a series of programs which
shares some of the stories of the Word of God, and applies the
principles of these stories to the troubles which our friends are
facing. These programs were broadcast on shortwave radio
,
FM radio, and
distributed as a cassette series, on CD and on the internet. As a
result:
- Influential leaders and their families have had the opportunity to hear encouragement from the Word of God on CD
- Soldiers have debated the Word of God together as they listened to it on cassette
- God's message has gone out by shortwave to isolated desert villages that were beyond our reach
- Families
in the capital
of Chad have listened to these FM broadcasts in their homes
The task awaiting us:
"We love these radio programs. They are the very first broadcasts in our language, and their message is very important to our community at this time in our history. You need to broadcast these programs on an FM station in our eastern town!"
The troubled situation in eastern Chad also compelled us to complete a
rough draft of the Gospel of Luke into one of the desert languages
before the end of our term in Chad. As we prepare to return to Chad, we
have the opportunity to revise and publish it. This will give us the
opportunity to produce more encouraging radio programs and a new series
of programs on cassette and CD. 
It will also lay
the foundation for us to
translate additional books of God's Word into this and other languages
of the desert. We are convinced that the Word of God is for everyone,
and brings light that will continue to encourage our friends in so many
ways.
God is
working in each of our lives, desiring that we would enjoy a personal
relationship with Him. To know more about how God may be
